I think it's legs would be hanging down behind the thumb--look at pictures of frogs at rest in the water, just floating. Or, one leg might be bent a little and one full extended. Sort of frog contrapposto.
I'd make the leg furthest from the hand dangle, with the foot toe-down, and the other leg perched on the thumb. That way they don't cover so much of the water...
